Back-To-School Clothing Checklist

With all the things there are to purchase at the onset of a new school year, do yourself a favor and use our checklist to prevent overbuying and ensure everyone’s wardrobe-ready for that impending first day of school (whoop, whoop…I mean, ho hum kids)!

  1. Check your school dress code. If uniforms are required, see if there’s an online resale market to find gently worn attire that can be recycled another year. If uniforms aren’t required, make sure any new purchases fall within the school’s dress code guidelines. There’s nothing worse than buying the latest and greatest trends only to realize midriffs, band tees, and/or hats aren’t allowed!

  2. Take inventory of what you’ve already got. Sorry younger kids, hand-me-downs will always be part of your childhood experience. Take stock of what fits whom and what’s salvageable for another season. There’s nothing worse than that first early wake-up, only to realize Dear Son or Daughter’s underwear doesn’t fit (true story)!

  3. Avoid the impulse to buy just because “tis the season”. Based on your climate, it might make more sense to wait on that shopping trip if you’ve got another 2-3 months of summer before the temperature drops. Kids grow quick, and there’s nothing worse than that perfect, new, fall wardrobe already being too small, or worse yet, trending out, by the time it’s ready to be worn!

  4. Color code. Be it the night before or morning of, color coding your closet will make finding what you’re looking for a snap. We recommend ROYGBIV to make it easy.

  5. Use drawer dividers to keep organized. We can’t recommend deep drawer dividers enough. We’ve used them countless times for countless clients to establish and keep drawers tidy and functional.

  6. Plan outfits for the week. Whether you’ve got a kid with ADHD who needs as much structure as possible or just a true fashionista, outfit planning can be a game changer when it comes to seamless and stress-free school mornings. Designate a small section in the closet or even a unique drawer to hold the day/week’s outfit selections.

  7. Label, label, label. As organizers, there isn’t much we don’t slap a label on because frankly, it just makes sense! Easily identify different storage containers of sizes and/or seasons to make for easy retrieval when the time comes. Drawers can also have labels and closets, tags, to keep things “keeping on”.

So what tips and tricks do you find most useful to set yourselves up for a successful back-to-school start?
