Best Practices for Packing Like a Pro

We’ve all been there: standing over an overflowing suitcase, wondering how we’re going to fit everything in. Whether you're a seasoned globetrotter or prepping for your first summer adventure, packing smart can make your trip so much smoother. Here’s some easy, practical tips to help you pack like a pro without breaking a sweat.

1. Make a List (and Check It Twice)

Grab a pad of paper, a notebook, your Notes App; it doesn’t matter. Jot down everything you think you’ll need, then trim it down to the essentials. This way, you won’t end up with five pairs of shoes for a weekend trip (I may or may not be guilty of this a time or two).

2. Roll with It

Instead of folding, try rolling your clothes. It’s a total game-changer! Rolling not only saves space but also helps prevent wrinkles. Plus, it’s way easier to see what you’ve packed when everything is laid out like sushi rolls in your suitcase. It’s like compact file folding!

3. Packing Cubes are Your Best/Worst Friend

I felt compelled to include these because I know so many people that swear by them! Personally, I find these little fabric organizers frustrating because I forget what I packed where, and can’t see everything at quick glance. However, for the cube enthusiast, they passionately maintain they’re the key to staying organized. Different cubes sort clothes (shirts in one, pants in another), so theoretically, you'll never have to dig through a chaotic suitcase again. It’s a mixed bag (see what I did there?)!

4. Plan Outfits, Not Items

Think in terms of outfits rather than individual items. Mix and match pieces that can be worn in different combinations. This way, you can keep your wardrobe versatile and your luggage light. And hey, it’s a great excuse to get creative with your style!

5. Miniaturize Your Toiletries

Leave the full-sized shampoo and body wash at home. Invest in some travel-sized containers or pick up minis from the store. These are my favorite from Amazon (click on the pic to see details)!

Bonus tip: keep a packed toiletry bag ready to go at all times to save time on last-minute packing. This makes it so easy, whether you’re going for a quick overnight or a longer getaway.

6. Wear Your Bulkiest Items

Save precious luggage space by wearing your heaviest shoes and jacket while traveling. Not only does this free up room in your suitcase, but it also keeps you cozy on chilly flights.

7. Tech Savvy Packing

Keep all your gadgets and chargers organized in a small tech pouch. This prevents the dreaded cable tangle and makes it easy to find what you need. Don’t forget a portable charger—there’s nothing worse than a dead phone when you need it most.
